Elon Musk's vision of meritocracy, which emphasises talent and hard work as pathways to success, has driven innovation at companies like Tesla and SpaceX. However, in a broader societal context, meritocracy can be deeply problematic. It often assumes a level playing field that doesn't exist, given factors like socioeconomic inequality and access to education.
In business we tend to try and stick to a formula that works. We invest in developing our brand and push our products to market. We use social media to associate ourselves in our customers minds as a brand to engage with and often we keep the same formula for many years.
Your company is one that produces products for the mass markets, consumer products that you naturally expect that everyone can use and can benefit from, am I right? You engage with your own product design teams, probably carry out market research to make sure that every aspect has been considered from all angles?
