These past three years have been a rollercoaster for employees, and their employers, that have brought a whole host of new challenges, from managing remote teams, grappling with economic uncertainty, leading to health and wellbeing concerns, it was, to quote an overused term, “unprecedented”!
And while many businesses have been forced to rethink their strategies, one thing remains clear: the well-being of employees must be a top priority, both in terms of their physical and also their mental health.
Unfortunately, a sizeable number of employers are forgetting this lesson, and this trend is growing. As a result of this and other factors quiet quitting is on the rise, as employees become increasingly frustrated with poor working environments and a lack of support and investment from their employers.
– it is becoming damn right toxic out there, nurturing a positive culture in an organisation is now taking a back seat!
How employees and potential candidates view this trend is important to study. Especially when we look at our younger workers and the emerging talent pipeline, who are increasingly looking for a better work experience and culture aligned with their values. They are being careful and decerning about where they work. If you are workforce planning for 2030 and beyond, the younger generation and their needs and values should be dead centre in your crosshairs.
So how can companies avoid losing their best talent, remain relevant and stay an employer of choice?
By looking at what was working well during COVID. Employers must avoid sliding back into old habits and believing that people are not productive when working from home.
We see many organisations all over the media and LinkedIn repeating the same old mantra, which boils down to “if I can’t see you, I can’t trust you” – rather than looking at the communication and development challenges and see “back in the office” as the only solution, employers must engage and work with people to innovate and implement workable solutions, not a one-size fits all approach.
😱 Elon Musk and Twitter – nuff said!
Tackle the momentum of quiet quitting by engaging with your employees and put well-being and culture back on top of the agenda.
